Adoption Procedures

There is a $60 NON-REFUNDABLE FEE for all animals which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered there is a $35 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT upon proof of surgery. An adoption application must be filled out at the Shelter by the person wishing to adopt the animal. Once the application has been reviewed and approved the potential adopter may visit and meet any of the animals. All cats must leave the Shelter in a cat carrier. Please bring a cat carrier.

If a cat is at Petco, it will state it in the description. All other cats are available at the Shelter. You can visit our cats and kittens at Petco anytime during their regular store hours. Adoption applications are available at Petco for the cats residing at Petco. The store is located in the Target Plaza on Veteran's Memorial Highway in the Town of Batavia.

Cats available for adoption

Adopted! Marbles is an adult neutered male White and Gray DSH. He was pulled from a trailer park where he got picked on quite a bit (see the marks on his nose). Marbles is a lover not a fighter, though. He loves being petted and scratched by loving hands!

Adopted! Tony is an adult neutered male Gray and White Tiger DSH. Tony is another big lover. Don’t plan on visiting him unless you have the time to snuggle with him.

Adopted! Tabasco is an adult neutered male Tiger DSH. Tabasco is very outgoing and comfortable at the Shelter. He is very friendly, affectionate and loves to play with toys!

Adopted! Olivia is an adult spayed female Black DSH. Olivia is a beautiful kitty that wants to be your one and only. Truth be told, she is a bit of a Diva. But who doesn't love a Diva kitty - strong and beautiful!

Archie is an adult neutered male Brown Tabby DSH. Archie has had to fight to stay alive on the streets. As a result, he is FIV positive. Below is more information on FIV. He is a really sweet guy who needs a home with no other kitties and probably no dogs. Most FIV positive cats live long healthy lives - we hope someone will give Archie a second chance.

Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) belongs to the same family of viruses as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and immunodeficiency viruses in other species. This family of viruses (Lentiviruses) is known for being species-specific, for life-long infection, and for slowly progressive diseases. FIV is not transmissible from cats to people, and HIV is not transmissible from people to cats.

The main method of transmission of FIV from one cat to another is through a bite wound during a cat fight. The virus is only rarely spread through casual cat-to-cat contact.

FIV-positive cats may live for many years. With good health care aimed at recognizing and treating FIV-associated problems early, these patients can enjoy good quality of life.

Working Cats

Periodically we get cats into the Shelter that are just not cut out for living in a home. They are happiest living outdoors. Some may be fearful of humans or have behavioral issues that make it impossible to live indoors. Regardless of the issue these cats, when given the right “home,” can live happy and productive lives. If you have a barn, stable, workshop, or warehouse you can save a life while receiving companionship and potentially expert, environmentally-friendly rodent control!

If you are interested in talking with a volunteer about adopting a working cat, please email us at info@vol4animals.org and include a phone number that we can reach you at.
